How Does Cryotherapy Work?
Cryotherapy works by causing the water in the skin cells to freeze. As this happens the water expands and then fractures the frozen cell walls causing cellular necrosis (death of the cell).
Cryotherapy requires the cells to be frozen to below -27 degrees to cause cell necrosis. Many at home treatment options only freeze the cells to -18 degrees, our Cryotherapy device freezes the cells to -47 degrees.
There may be a slight dull ache while treating larger lesions such as warts or pigmentation marks but the treatment is not painful.
After the treatment the skin will look slightly red, the lesion will NOT be removed immediately, this is to ensure safe removal with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. If you want it removed immediately it would need to be cut off, resulting in possible scarring. Using Cryotherapy ensures an effective but gentle removal. The area must not be touched and the surface will go darker. The area may be itchy afterwards and in rare cases may form a blister but it is important to not touch or scratch the area. Leave it to heal. It will take 4-6 weeks for the skin to return fully to ‘normal’.
